ZAKAT
In the financial year 2005-06, major part of MESCO's funds
were generated from Zakat Collections. The Zakat appeals are distributed by hand about 15-20 days
before the start of Ramzaan month .These appeals mainly
aim at trying to persuade people to give part of their Zakat
towards the Noble cause of Education.
MESCO Trustees and staff members
manage to persuade their friends and contacts to donate Zakat to MESCO. MESCO volunteers stand
outside the mosques and distribute appeals to persons
coming out of the mosques, generally after Friday
Prayers. The volunteers are generally beneficiaries of
MESCO through the Education Adoption Scheme. The
organisation also makes arrangements with newspaper
agents to distribute the appeals along with the
newspapers. MESCO representatives also visit the
houses of the prospective donors to contribute Zakat to
MESCO to fund its activities.
OLD NEWSPAPERS
COLLECTION
Right from its inception MESCO has been
collecting Old Newspapers from house to house once in a month from all over
Bombay to raise funds. This idea of tapping old newspaper collection for funds
raising was suggested by a MESCO donor in the early seventees. MESCO had
started the Old Newspapers Collection drive about 35
years back.
MESCO collects newspaper from over 1200 homes all over
Mumbai and suburbs in a professional way & is currently abe to raise over
Rs.50,000/- each month.
LIFE MEMBERS : Any person who pays Rs.2500/-
to the organization will become the Life Member of the Organization subject to
the approval of the Executive Committee.
PATRON MEMBERS : Any person who pays a sum of
Rs.5000/- to the Organization will become the Patron Member of the
Organization subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.
